Sep 28, 2010 An Introduction to Latin America: Wealth, Poverty, Class 10:00 am - 11:30 am Optivation - Adventures in Lifelong Learning
Poverty in Latin America is widespread, but mostly has seen slow small improvement in recent years. Some Latin American states reflect strong middle-class economies, high literacy rates, professional classes and stable governments. Others do not. Latin America has generally attracted more foreign investment than Africa or Asia but often making countries reliant on unstable short-term North American speculative foreign investment. Allied with expensive high interest rate aid loans, this has made escaping poverty difficult for many Latin American governments. An exploration of the discrepancies between rich and poor, both within and among Latin American states will be discussed.
