Sep 29, 2009 Pow wows: History, Culture, and Symbolism 10:00 am - 11:30 am
When and where were the first pow wows? Is the purpose of these gatherings social, spiritual, or only to dance? Are all pow wows the same? Pow wows have an interesting history as well as a dynamic contemporary presence within American Indian communities. In this discussion, BSU Ojibwe and ethnic studies instructor Henry Flocken will explore the origins and symbolic significance of these socially and culturally important events.
