Creating and Writing Position Descriptions and Appraisals
Two presenters will share two different approaches for creating job descriptions and appraisals. They will also share examples of job descriptions and appraisals from their organizations and discuss the importance of having each in place, regardless of the size of a business. Academy of Lifelong Learning Begins Fall Presentation Series
The Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) continues the fall series of weekly presentations throughout October. The ALL is a learning in retirement network made possible with funding from the Minnesota Humanities Commission in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities and support from Bemidji State University and the BSU Foundation. October speakers include Mr. Michael Hansen, Lisa Sethre-Hofstad, Dr. Art Lee, Dr. CarolAnn Russell Schlemper and Dr. Elizabeth Dunn. The presentations for the ALL are free and open to the public. Wetland Restoration and Road Decommissioning
Presenting will be David Morley and Luke Rutten, hydrologists with the USDA Forest Service. They will discuss road decommissioning/obliteration projects completed in the last couple of years and the resulting successes and failures, results of wetland restoration monitoring associated with road removal and future expectations. Specific locations to be discussed include Woodtick Trail located south-southeast of Walker, an Enbridge Energy partnership project south of Leech Lake River and several forest roads west of Remer. “Disaster Preparedness – Are you ready?”
Presenting will be Beryl Wernberg, emergency manager for Beltrami County.
Her presentation will introduce the incident command system and highlight personal emergency planning. The information presented will be useful to both organizational safety managers and the general public. Handouts providing suggestions for business and family preparedness will be available for all participants. This session will be held at the CRI on Wednesday, October 18 from 11:30am-1pm. Register early to guarantee lunch and materials. Registration fee is $20.
Real Estate Sales Pre-Licensure Courses Offered
Real Estate is a dynamic industry that offers flexible job opportunities for energetic individuals with good people skills. To become a licensed real estate person in Minnesota, you must complete 90 hours of pre-licensure training – Real Estate I, II and III. You must also successfully pass the Real Estate Licensure exam. After completing 90 hours of classroom instruction and passing the exam, you can apply for the Real Estate Salesperson License with the Minnesota Department of Commerce. “Building Your Business – Do you have the right tools?”
The SBDC will be holding a training session, in collaboration with the Hubbard County Regional Economic Development Authority, in Park Rapids on Thursday, November 2nd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. entitled 'Building Your Business - Do You Have the Right Tools'. The training will be held in the Hubbard County Building, the fee will be $25.00 including lunch and materials. Forest Certification Workshop
This full-day event will feature a variety of speakers and break-out sessions to discuss issues relating to forest certification. The event will be held December 5 at the Northern Inn Conference Center in Bemidji. Preliminary schedule is online. Registration form is online.
Fundamentals of Project Management
This three day highly interactive course provides a foundation to the Project Management framework and the management tools necessary to ensure success. Topics include project selection, life cycle, scope planning, estimating costs, execution and control, and risk management.
Working in teams, the students will develop a project charter and project management plan including Communications Plan, Risk Management Plan, Implementation Plan and Quality Plan.
Students are encouraged to use existing projects as opposed to instructor provided case studies. If you are a project manager, including grant managers, the hands on exercises will provide your project team with the tangible outcomes required to develop a comprehensive project plan. Course begins January 16, 2007. Course fee is $425, including lunch and all materials, with a discount offered to any company sending 4 or more people to this course. Computer Forensics
The Center for Research and Innovation has partnered with Dr. Kari Wood, BSU Associate Professor of Business Administration and Certified Computer Examiner to offer a new non-credit course to learn more about computer forensics. Topics may include procedures of discovering and preserving evidence, types of computer and Internet crimes, and methods of searching and retrieving evidence using software tools. This program is in early development stages and is expected to be offered Summer 2007. If you are interested in learning more, contact the CRI.
