“High Performance Working Relationships – for Leaders, Managers and Supervisors”
The presentation will focus on the dynamic processes one can use to create influential relationships with staff members and coworkers. Participants will receive handouts summarizing the material presented along with additional reading references. Presenting will be Jack Velzen, a leadership and management consultant and trainer from Grand Rapids.  This presentation will be held Thursday, May 3 from 9am – 12pm at the Center for Research and Innovation.  Registration and more information are online.  The fee for this session is $50.

Natural Resources Presentation Examines Bovine Tuberculosis
A natural resources presentation examining Bovine Tuberculosis in the United States, with an emphasis on the current situation in Minnesota, is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, May 14.  Presenting will be Dr. Sheryl Shaw, an area epidemiology officer with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services, St. Paul. Until 2005, when Bovine Tuberculosis was identified in five northwest Minnesota cattle herds, Minnesota had been designated TB free since 1975. Since then, two more herds were identified as affected with Bovine TB in 2006 and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has also identified Bovine TB in deer harvested from the same area.   The presentation is designed to be of interest to both beef producers and the general public. Are you meeting National Fire Protection Association 70E standards?
The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation will host a presentation Wednesday, May 16 from 11:30am to 1:00pm on the National Fire Protection Association’s standards related to clothing and gear for protecting workers from ARC flash hazards. Presenting will be Steve Stanius, a sales representative with FRESCO Inc. The Plymouth firm serves as a manufacturer’s representative offering a complementary line of protective clothing, tools and instruments designed for the electric utility industry.  His presentation will focus on protective clothing and insulated tool requirements established by the National Fire Protection Association 70E standards and manufacturer sources of the required protective gear.  Registration fee is $20 and covers lunch and all materials.  More information is online.

MARKETING STRATEGIES – Online Non-Credit Course – 6 Weeks, June 4- July 15
This class is designed for the person who wants to start a business or is in business and wants to build a MARKETING PLAN for their existing business.  Learners will receive a “Box of Tools” to build every piece of a Marketing Plan.  Explore and Analyze the market and learn to develop your marketing mix, a combination of marketing tools that are used to satisfy customers and company objectives - . Manage Your Business More Effectively
The latest version of award-winning QuickBooks financial management software gives you fast and easy tools to help you manage your business more effectively. QuickBooks Pro 2007 is much more efficient than spreadsheets, word-processing, or paper ledgers.  You'll spend less time on bookkeeping activities and have more time to make effective management decisions.  This hands-on class will be taught by Gary Sorenson, CPA and Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College faculty member.  Learners will use laptops with Quickbooks Pro 2007 to learn how to quickly and easily manage financial tasks within their business.  Learners with previous versions of Quickbooks software will also improve business efficiency by taking this class.  This event is co-sponsored with the NW Minnesota Small Business Development Center. The class will be held June 7 and June 12 from 9am to 4pm at the Center for Research and Innovation.  Registration form is online.

Plans for summer learning 2007 at Bemidji State University are well underway, with more than 500 courses and workshops to choose from.  Summer courses at BSU can provide you with a great opportunity to catch up with courses, get ahead in your educational plans or explore new interests.  If you have an employee, friend or someone in your family who could benefit from the BSU summer experience, be sure to tell them about “The Lake.  The Learning. Attention Law Enforcement Professionals: Enhance your skills
Learn to preserve, identify, recover and document computer data in a 2-Day computer forensics training session.  Course will be lead by Dr. Kari Wood, BSU faculty member and Certified Computer Examiner.  Participants will learn the fundamental principles and concepts in computer forensics. The topics include: the differing data file structures, the procedure of discovering and preserving evidence, and methods of searching and retrieving evidence using software tools. Related legal procedures and reports are also discussed briefly.  Participants will conduct a minimum of 1 hands-on practice case during the training session.  Once completed, this training session will allow a basic understanding of the process, policies, and software needs to conduct a computer forensics analysis.  More information and registration forms are available online. Mental Health Knowledge Cluster Coming in September 2007
The Center for Research and Innovation is pleased to announce the formation of a new Knowledge Cluster designed for professionals in the Mental Health and Human Services field, beginning this fall. This group is designed to serve as a forum for mental health professionals to collaborate their efforts, to provide networking opportunities and to offer local training opportunities so that agencies can reduce costs and improve service to the Bemidji Community. Currently, we are looking for professionals in these fields who would be interested in serving as part of the Advisory Board, or who would like to participate in the initial brainstorming session(s) and formation of the group. Please contact the CRI with any questions regarding the knowledge cluster and let us know what your level of interest in participating might be.  The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 17 from 12:00-2:00 p.m.  Contact the CRI at cri@bemidjistate.edu for more information.
